1. Antagonism Against Skin-Associated Microorganisms

Antimicrobial activity against opportunistic skin-associated bacteria was strain-dependent.

L. fermentum LF160

showed the broadest inhibition spectrum against Staphylococcus aureus and Cutibacterium species.

L. paracasei LPC100

demonstrated targeted inhibition of Cutibacterium strains.

L. acidophilus LA120 

exhibited moderate activity against selected strains.

Together, these complementary antimicrobial profiles broaden the capacity of the formulation to counteract
microorganisms associated with skin imbalance.

Metabolomic profiling identified several metabolites produced by the selected strains involved in host–
microbe metabolic interactions.

Organic Acids

Lactate produced by lactobacilli contributes to microbial ecological balance and epithelial physiology. Succinate, produced at elevated levels by 
 L. fermentum LF160, represents an additional microbial signaling metabolite associated with host metabolic communication.

Amino acids associated with epithelial and skin
metabolism

Metabolomic analysis identified production of several amino acids across the NORDBIOTIC™ 4 SKIN strains, including:

Glutamine

Cysteine Arginine

Ornithine

These metabolites are involved in epithelial physiology, collagen structure, antioxidant pathways, and host metabolic signaling.

Metabolomic analysis indicated production of selected B-vitamins by the NORDBIOTIC™ 4 SKIN strains.

Vitamin B3 (niacin)
was associated with L. acidophilus LA120, L. fermentum LF160, L. paracasei LPC100 and B. bifidum BF030

Vitamin B6
production was associated particularly with B. bifidum BF030. These vitamins participate in metabolic pathways relevant to epithelial cell function.
